Closing the Loop with PakTech in Australia

Made from 100% recycled Australian plastic, PakTech’s locally manufactured multipack handles are designed to be recycled and repurposed into new handles, packaging, and other everyday products made from #2 recycled HDPE plastic.

This keeps materials in circulation and supports a true circular economy right here in Australia.

PakTech is proud to be a participating member of ANZPAC, led by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) and part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s global Plastics Pact Network. This collective brings together national and regional initiatives working towards one goal: a circular economy for plastics.

Here’s how PakTech actively supports ANZPAC’s 2025 Targets:

🔄 ANZPAC Target: Eliminate unnecessary and problematic plastic through redesign, innovation, and reuse.
PakTech has eliminated virgin plastic and uses only 100% recycled Australian HDPE. Our multipack handles are reusable, recyclable, and locally made,  offering a circular, low-waste solution.

♻️ ANZPAC Target: 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025.
Every PakTech product is already 100% recyclable and reusable. We’re ahead of the target and staying there.

📈 ANZPAC Target: Increase collection and effective plastic packaging recycling by at least 25% across the region.
PakTech handles are kerbside collected across Australia, and all scrap from our manufacturing process is recycled. We also support drop-off points through partners like Visy Recycling, Endeavour Group, Coles Liquor, and Independent Craft Brewers.

🔁 ANZPAC Target: Average of 25% recycled content in plastic packaging across the region.
PakTech exceeds this target; our products are made from 100% recycled Australian HDPE, supporting local recycling markets and reducing demand for virgin plastic.

Looking Ahead:
As of the end of 2024, PakTech adopted NIR-detectable colourant in all black products, making them fully compatible with Australian recycling infrastructure..

PakTech use of NIR-detectable colourant in all black products ensures they’re fully compatible with Australia’s recycling infrastructure.

We’re incorporating a biobased infrared reflective (IR) black masterbatch colourant made from renewable, grain-derived biomaterial. This colourant is not only recyclable—it’s also detectable using the NIR technology used in today’s Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs).

Provides >10% reflectivity and >40 L-value, meeting APR standards for sortability of dark plastics

Verified through third-party testing and real-world MRF trials, demonstrating a >96% recovery rate

This upgrade ensures that even our black products are part of the circular economy, meaning they are recoverable, recyclable, and responsibly made.
